The Board of Trustees of the Haverhill Historical Society develops the policies and procedures of the Buttonwoods Museum and ensures that the mission of the Society is carried out by staff and volunteers. The trustees represent the community and are involved in fundraising efforts to support the Buttonwoods Museum. A series of annual events raise funds for building maintenance, daily operations, museum collections and special programs. The Board of Trustees holds its annual meeting at the Buttonwoods Museum in June.
The Haverhill Historical Society was founded in 1897 and the Buttonwoods Museum opened in 1904. The museum celebrated its centennial in 2004 with a year-long series of events that highlighted the museum’s history and role as greater Haverhill’s community museum.
