1. Embroidered Woman's Pocket

Linen, late 1700s. From the Duncan Family. A pocket was worn underneath a woman’s skirt and was accessible through a slit in the fabric of the skirt. Although pockets were not intended to be seen in public, many women decorated their pockets to reflect their needlework skills. This is one item of many Duncan family objects the Historical Society has in the collection.
