Interested in donating an artifact to the Museum? Here’s the procedure:First, all donations must have a Haverhill relevance. The mission of the Society is to collect and interpret the history of Haverhill from Native American settlement to the present. Our objects tell a story about people and places in Haverhill. At the museum, we need to know as much as possible about an item in order for it to become part of our collection. Write a letter to the President of the Board of trustees describing in detail the artifact under consideration. Include measurements, condition, and history of the artifact. (Include Donor Questionnaire?) Include a photograph or email a jpg image. Since space is at a premium, we need to have a clear indication of how large the object is. Also, in order for us to properly care for our artifacts according to established professional museum standards, we must purchase materials such as acid-free tissue, boxes, file folders, etc. Preservation costs. We also send out selected objects for conservation. We encourage potential donors to become members of the Buttonwoods Museum / Haverhill Historical Society in order to support the Museum’s mission. |
